Why should I select York Driving School? It is the philosophy of the York Driving School that our primary goal is to help the student become a responsible driver. Class usually meets only once per week during the school year allowing you to focus on your academics and meet most of your extracurricular obligations. We also offer driving appointments during your study halls in addition to afternoons, evenings and Saturdays. We believe that when students have successfully completed the York Driving School program they will be safe, courteous and responsible drivers. We are looking forward to providing an educational experience for your son/daughter that will enable him/her to develop the skills needed to become a lifelong responsible driver. How Long does it take to complete the York Driving School program? Our program consists of thirty hours of classroom instruction, ten hours of on the road driving, and some hours of active observation. This will exceed minimum requirements of the State of Maine Bureau of Motor Vehicles. This generally takes place over a two month period of time. Our approach is gradual allowing for the application of classroom instruction over an extended time period. Ideally, classroom lessons are accompanied by weekly driving appointments to develop individual growth in skill and competency on the road. What is the learning environment or York Driving School like?In the classroom, the students will be using the Glencoe Responsible Driving textbook and the State of Maine Motorist Handbook/Study Guide. The program will also incorporate guest speakers, videos and computer based learning. A schedule of classes will be given to each student. Each class will be three hours in length. Parent's night will be held during our course. You will be notified of the time, and parents must make arrangements to attend. This will meet the Bureau of Motor Vehicle requirement for parent involvement so your son/daughter will be able to receive his/her driving permit. A York driving school binder is provided to each student with visuals, brochures and study guides organized for them to strengthen their learning during the course. What kind of vehicle will I be driving and will I drive with other students? The vehicle being used for on the road instruction is a 2004 Toyota Camry. Insurance coverage as mandated by the State of Maine and Motor Vehicle has been met. The students will meet with the instructor in the back parking lot of York High School. Most driving appointments are scheduled in one hour increments. Students have the option of being instructed in pairs which means each driving appointment will consist of one hour of behind the wheel instruction and one hour of observation. All driving appointments must begin and end on time. Any student that is late will be required to make up that time. If I have a conflict in schedule how do I make up a driving class? Is it flexible? We make every effort to accomodate student's dynamic schedules. With advance notice we are usually able to quickly fill any available opening for driving time, however class time must be made up with no exceptions. What is the minumum age to sign up?In adherence to the State of Maine laws, it is a requirement that the student be fifteen years old before the first scheduled class. An original birth certificate must be brought to the first class. Does York Driving School have a "Code of Ethics?"We will not accept rude or disruptive or irresponsible behavior or any violation of the State of Maine Drug and Alcohol laws. Any student that violates these rules or displays this undesirable type of behavior will be immediately dismissed without a refund and not allowed to be back in class in the future. We take Driver Education very seriously and expect the students to do the same. |
